Delhi has been a capital for centuries, and three of its monuments are UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Humayun's Tomb, the Red Fort and the Qutb Minar. Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) serves the city.
Old and New Delhi
Old Delhi's Chandni Chowk is still one of the busiest markets in India. New Delhi, laid out in the 1920s and 1930s, brings broad avenues, India Gate and leafy residential areas.
Getting around
The Delhi Metro crosses the city and reaches Gurugram, Noida and Faridabad, and its Airport Express, the Orange Line, links Terminal 3 with New Delhi station. Taxis are easy to hail, and auto rickshaw fares are agreed before you set off.
The Golden Triangle
Delhi is the start of the classic route to Agra and Jaipur. Ask us to plan it with you.
Before you go
Entry and visas
Check India's visa rules for your passport before you book. With a Bangladeshi passport, start with the High Commission of India in Bangladesh, linked below. On another passport, apply only through India's official visa portal, and avoid sites that ask for extra payment.
Health
See your doctor or a travel clinic a few weeks before you go. Guard against mosquito bites, take care with food and water, and use sun protection, as highs are near 40°C in May and June. Air quality is often poor from November to February, so check local reports.
Money
India's currency is the Indian rupee (INR). Carry cash for markets, street food and auto rickshaws, and ask your bank what your card costs to use abroad.
