Bali's Hindu culture makes it different from the rest of Indonesia: you see temples, offerings and ceremonies wherever you go. Our Bali holiday stays in Kuta and takes you out by private car to Ubud, the temples of the north and the beaches of the south.

Temples

Tanah Lot stands on its rock in the sea and is best seen at sunset. Uluwatu sits on the cliffs of the south, where the Kecak dance is performed.

Ubud and the rice fields

Ubud is known for its arts, yoga and food, and is surrounded by rice terraces such as Tegallalang. The terraces at Jatiluwih are part of Bali's UNESCO listed subak landscape.

Beaches

The south has the beaches of Seminyak, Kuta, Jimbaran and Nusa Dua.

Check the date of Nyepi

Nyepi, the Balinese Day of Silence, marks the Saka new year and falls on a different date each year. For 24 hours from 6am, travel and entertainment stop, visitors stay in their hotels and the airport closes.

Entry and visas

Entry rules for Indonesia depend on your passport and can change. Check the official sources below before you book and again before you travel, and use only official Indonesian government websites for any visa or arrival form.

Health

See your doctor or a travel clinic a few weeks before you go. Highs are around 29 to 32°C all year, so drink plenty of water and use sun protection. Guard against mosquito bites, take care with food and water, and keep away from dogs, monkeys and other animals, as rabies is a risk.

Money

Indonesia's currency is the rupiah (IDR). Carry cash for markets, small shops and food stalls, and ask your bank what your card costs to use abroad.
