Around 120 km of sand on the Bay of Bengal and Bangladesh's favourite beach escape: sunsets at Laboni and Sugandha, Marine Drive to Himchari and Inani, and Ramu's temples.
Cox's Bazar is where Bangladesh goes to the seaside. The sand runs for around 120 kilometres south towards Teknaf, one of the longest unbroken sandy beaches in the world, and families fill the shore at Kolatoli and Sugandha as the sun goes down.
Follow the coast road south to the hills and waterfall at Himchari and on to Inani, where rocks and coral stones lie on the sand. Ramu, about 10 km from town, has Buddhist monasteries and pagodas: dress modestly and take your shoes off where asked.
The flight from Dhaka to Cox's Bazar Airport (CXB) takes about an hour, and a direct train from Dhaka has run since 2023.
Take care when swimming. Quicksand can be a danger at ebb tide, so swim only where local guidance says it is safe, and never alone.

Use plenty of sun protection on the beach, drink bottled or treated water and guard against mosquito bites. Swim only where local guidance says it is safe.
The currency is the Bangladeshi taka (BDT). Carry cash for beach stalls, markets and local transport.
