The Maldives is a country of islands and lagoons in the Indian Ocean, warm all year with average highs of about 30 to 32°C. For a first visit from Dhaka, a few nights on one or two islands is plenty.

Choosing an island

Our holidays stay on Maafushi or Hulhumale, or on both in one trip, in 3 star hotels with breakfast and airport transfers. Resorts close to Velana International Airport are reached by speedboat, and those further away by seaplane or domestic flight. Scheduled ferries also run from Malé to many atolls.

When to go

January to April is usually the driest and sunniest time, with the fewest rainy days. Showers are more frequent from May to December, but it stays warm.

On a local island

Dress modestly in the village and keep swimwear for the beach set aside for visitors, often called a bikini beach. Alcohol is served at resorts but not on local islands, and public displays of affection are best kept to a minimum.

Money

The currency is the Maldivian rufiyaa (MVR). Cards are accepted at resorts and in many places, but carry some cash on local islands.
