See and do
The Petronas Twin Towers and their skybridge rule the skyline. Visit Merdeka Square and Masjid Jamek, and eat at Jalan Alor at night.
Batu Caves
An active Hindu shrine about 13 km north of the city: dress modestly and be ready to climb 272 steps to the main temple cave. The caves are the focus of the yearly Thaipusam festival.
Getting around
LRT, MRT, monorail and commuter trains cover the city, with KL Sentral as the main hub, and a non stop train links KL Sentral with Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
Before you go
Entry and visas
Entry rules for Malaysia depend on your passport and can change. Check the official sources below before you book and again before you travel. If you need Malaysia's online arrival card, use only the Immigration Department's own website and avoid sites that ask for payment.
Health
See your doctor or a travel clinic a few weeks before you go. Highs are around 32 to 34°C all year, so drink plenty of water and use sun protection. Guard against mosquito bites, take care with food and water, avoid contact with animals and check air quality reports.
Money
Malaysia's currency is the ringgit (MYR). Carry cash for markets, food stalls and small shops, and ask your bank what your card costs to use abroad.
